Facebook & Websense Partner Up to Protect Facebook’s 800 million Users

Facebook + Websense = LIKE!Facebook and Websense have teamed up to help protect users from malicious links that are often found frolicking on the insanely popular social networking website. Thank God.

According to the press release, Facebook’s new security service is backed by Websense® ThreatSeeker® Cloud, which includes the Advanced Classification Engine (ACE) technology to help identify online threats and dangerous content.

Now whenever users click on a link inside Facebook, the link will be checked against ACE to determine whether the link is malicious. If the link has been flagged as malicious, the user will be presented with the options to return to the previous screen, see why it was flagged or continue at their own risk.

Isn’t that awesome?!

Hopefully the partnership will stop [or greatly reduce] scams that float around Facebook, which range from fake “breaking news” that Lady Gaga has died to hoaxes that claim Facebook is planning to charge users.

Of course, you should always have client-side protection going by running up-to-date antivirus software on your PC just incase you hit a bad link before it's been flagged. ;)
